Studio
In the summer of 2012, we started Faculty with a focus on branding, web and print design, and art direction. In the following years, we were fortunate to work on various projects both locally and internationally with the privilege of building great relationships with the people we worked with. Based in Vancouver, Canada, we hope to continue to make a valuable impact in our city through our work and vision.

Vision
Countless posters and visual material in general are displayed yearly to communicate the message of various entities in the city. The ability to speak and be heard is vital to our living and yet also a privilege. What we found to matter most, however, is the gratification of being understood and connected. To be in concert with another person can be achieved in many different ways.

While exploring Kyōto one year, we participated in a traditional tea ceremony. The gestures, cultural notions and lack of words in the dialogue really caused us to rethink our approach to communication and certainly our role as graphic designers. Kenya Hara mentioned in his book, White, that the highest form of communication in Japanese culture was being able to communicate without the need to use words. It is not to devalue words or other methods by any means, but simply to emphasize the level of clarity to the point where no medium is necessary.

In our studio practice, we are striving to reflect these same values—to create work that invites open dialogue and best presents the content in its truest form, removed of all unnecessary elements.

Whether within the culture of the studio, in our communication with the people we work with, or in our community, we are striving daily to communicate with honesty, sincerity and an openness to one another.

This is our vision and we hope to continue to communicate this through our work and day to day life.
